The Rotary Club of Barrie Huronia has celebrated the success of the 2008 Rotary Cash Calendar campaign.
The club welcomed the calendar’s major sponsors, groups that sell the calendar, and those local groups who benefit from the fundraiser to a celebration luncheon.
“This calendar is a big deal,” said Sheila Garner, chairperson of the 2008 Cash Calendar. “This helps us bring in the funds that we need to help in the community. We spend it all. We don’t keep one cent of it for ourselves.”
The calendar program, which started in 1992, has become one of the club’s four major fundraisers.
The calendars are sold for $20 each and give supporters a chance to win daily cash prizes, as well as bonus $1,000 draws.
In 2008, 3,214 calendars were sold, bringing in $84,980 through sales and sponsorship ads.
The calendars produced a profit of $52,480 after printing costs and $20,000 going to prizes.
Some funds also benefit groups who sold the Rotary calendar as their own fundraiser.
“Groups that want to sell the calendar can earn up to $10 of the sale of the $20 calendar,” Garner said. “We also encourage other Rotary clubs to sell it then they get cheques for their beneficiaries.”
The calendars are sold by the Rotary Club of Barrie - Huronia, The Rotary Club of Barrie - Kempenfelt, the Rotary Club of Lindsay, the Rotary Club of Parry Sound and the Rotary Club of Bradford.
During the luncheon event the Don Harrison Memorial Award was given to the Rotarian who has done an outstanding job with the calendar. This year’s award, presented by Sue Harrison, went to Dan Stuart of the Barrie Kempenfelt Rotary Club for his hard work.
The 2009 calendars will go on sale in the fall.
