Why on earth does everyone assume Monti is a male name?
Why would someone address me as Mister without seeing me or heard me?
They automatically assume I am a Mister.
I was addressed as Mr. Monti Hannona in the Barrie Advance on Friday April 18 issue when I wrote a letter. The person who responded to my letter continued to name me Mr. Monti.
My name is Muntaha Hannona, short form Monti, you see I’m placing the “i” at the end so it will distinguish between the female and male, just like Tony and Toni the female version.
I had also been called Montana, that’s no problem, I can live with that. I used to live in the United States and I had met many female Montanans.
Then if no one had called a female Monti then, let me break the ice and be the first one.
I’m sure people can get this correct and assume Monti is short for female Montana and Muntaha.
I’m sick and tired of people calling me at home and asking for Monti and when I say I am speaking, their response is “Oh. How odd. I thought it was a male”. I really get offended.
From now and on, I had been incorporating my picture in my resume to save me some heartache.
