A traffic stop for a seatbelt infraction almost resulted in several pedestrians being run over in Beeton Tuesday.

A Nottawasaga OPP officer tried to stop the driver for not wearing a seatbelt at about 4:10 p.m on Dayfoot Street, but the driver wasn’t having any of it.

After refusing to stop, the man lost control of his vehicle and almost hit several pedestrians before coming to rest on the lawn of a home.

He then got out of the vehicle and ran from police, but was caught a short time later. After a brief struggle, he taken into custody.

Further investigation revealed the man's driver’s license was under suspension due to a past conviction for dangerous driving. He also had a court order not to drive any motor vehicle and was ordered to keep the peace.

The 25-year-old man Dean Wines of Adjala-Tosorontio faces many charges including dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and resisting arrest.

He was scheduled to appear in a Barrie court the next morning.
