There are a number of events happening on Earth Day this coming Tues., April 22 at the Gibson Centre.

The centre will unveil the results of their green assessment of buildings and programs and will also encourage audiences to follow their example of “going green.”

Climate change experts will explain how the environment has been affected by human activity. Climate change scientist Dr. Hans Martin will explain exactly how and why the Earth is changing. Climate change artist Linda Mackey will be on hand and offers a powerful representation of climate change through her art.

Student environmentalist John Park will have the opportunity to tell everyone how much the Climate Change Expedition to the high Arctic influenced him. Park is a Toronto student who visited the high Arctic with the Students On Ice Climate Change Expedition.

Audiences can learn how they can save the natural world through simple practices. Over 300 tips on saving money, water, energy and resources are offered in Doing My Part, a book by local author and guest speaker Shirley Cox. Chef Bryan Thompson will give recipes for Earth Day hors d’oeuvres and will share his newly concocted Spring into Earth Day martini.

Recycling options and educational programs for schools will be introduced as well.

Gibson’s Earth Day presentation runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There is no cost, but donations are greatly appreciated. A portion of each donation will allow an Alliston-area student to travel to the high Arctic this summer with 70 international students and educators for the Students on Ice Climate Change Expedition.

The Gibson Centre is located on 63 Tupper St. W., Alliston.

For more information about the event, call the Gibson Centre at 705-435-2828.
