Celebrity performers will light up the night for Theatre by the Bay’s seventh-annual Stars Come Out event, which takes place Monday, April 21, at the Gryphon Theatre.
TBTB’s founder and artistic director Larissa Mair has brought together a spectacular cast of professional entertainers for an evening of variety and outstanding talent.
“We’ve got a lot of new people this year, which I’m excited about,” Mair said, adding that she will co-host the show with Sarah Cornell (The Producers, The Second City) and Glenn Coulson, TBTB’s associate producer (After Tuesday).
Camilla Scott is one of the new performers coming on board for the fundraiser this year. She is perhaps best known for her starring role in the long-running stage production of Mamma Mia, as well the musical Crazy for You.
While living in Los Angeles, the actress and television talk show host got her start in the soap opera, Days of Our Lives. From 1995 to 1998, she hosted the top-rated show in the county, The Camilla Scott Show on CTV. She also had a recurring role on the hit series Due South, playing RCMP Inspector Meg Thatcher, the superior officer of the main character Const. Benton Fraser, played by Paul Gross.
Scott, who was born and raised in Toronto, is delighted about coming to Barrie.
“My mom was born in Collingwood,” Scott noted. “My whole family is from Wasaga Beach. That area is like a second home to me. I spent my childhood up there hanging out.”
Scott, who recently shot a mini-series in Calgary, continues to take on a variety of roles in television and theatre. She is looking forward to stepping on the Gryphon stage to perform, "There’s something so exciting about the live experience where you can never know what’s gong to happen. TBTB is a great cause and I’m really happy to help.”
Included among the other artists set to shine for one of Barrie’s finest theatre company’s are: Ma-Ann Dionisio (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables), The Canadian Four Tenors, and Adam Brazier (Mamma Mia, The Stratford Festival, We Will Rock You).
Mair, who is five-feet tall, is looking forward to working with her co-host Sarah Cornell, who is 6’4”, not including heels.
“The two of us beside each other will make us laugh… I think this is going to be the best show ever.”
High-energy dancing, singing, and comedy, as well as numbers by a Beatles tribute band, will guarantee fun for all. Some of the highly-anticipated pieces include those which will feature dancers from the Toronto productions of Hairspray and Dirty Dancing.
As well, there will be a performance from TBTB’s young company (alumni and current members) which is made up of up-and-coming thespians and triple threats. This year, Shaelyn Angus, a theatre arts major at York University who got her start in the TBTB’s young company, and is now in the newly founded intermediate company, will sing a solo.
Stars Come Out will benefit Theatre by the Bay’s summer season which will present Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream in Heritage Park, The musical Glorious!, and Cinderella’s Summer Adventure.
