Alicja Szal, Gryphon’s box office manager, poses with birdhouses along with Tim Bilton, Barrie artist. They are among the many artists who have decorated birdhouses for the Gryphon in the Garden event April 13 at Garden Greenhouses. Bilton's birdhouse is composed of chinchilla sides, fake alligator front and back, and a fake emu roof. A recycled mink inhabits the structure. Szal's decorator birdhouse (yellow far left) is done in oil paint.

On Sunday, April 13, the board of directors of The Gryphon Theatre for Arts and Entertainment will host a fundraising event, Gryphon in the Garden, at the Bradford Greenhouses Garden Gallery, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will showcase garden art and related items. Recognized artists and artisans from as far away as Montreal have donated their time and skills to produce one-of-a-kind designs for pre-fabricated wooden birdhouses. These unique creations, along with tickets to upcoming performances throughout the 2008 summer season at Gryphon, will be raffled off at Garden Gallery.

Raffle tickets are $2 each, three for $5, 25 for $20 or 50 for $35. One complimentary draw ticket coupon is available from the website, and at selected retail locations. People coming to the event can simply deposit their tickets in the raffle box for the birdhouse they desire. Raffles will run throughout the day.

In addition, works of original Canadian art will be available for display and sale. Regional artists and artisans will also provide live demonstrations of their artistic process during the event.

At noon and 2 p.m., noted wildlife photographer, author and naturalist David Hawke will present interpretive sessions entitled Birding in Your Backyard, offering tips on how to attract birds to your backyard, and how to identify them.

There will also be a barbecue and beverages for sale.
