I was more than disappointed in the treatment the David Busby Street Centre received in the Barrie Advance.
The inflammatory article will do more to provoke the not-in-my-backyard sentiment those involved in the social services sector realize is as nearly as significant a barrier to fighting the war on the poverty as poverty itself.
The story is also troubling as a great deal of the article was devoted to the narrow views of those who would rather advocate long-ago-debunked myths and use fear-mongering as a tactic to defeat that which they clearly do not understand.
The vilification of our participants and our programs is unfair, inaccurate and only serves to enhance an odious and misleading predisposition.
Another concern I have with your distorted observation on the move of the David Busby Street Centre is the manufactured way in which you have narrowed down our search of a new home.
What was not printed, but relayed by me to The Advance, was that we have talked to many churches as well as real estate professionals and developers in our efforts to find a new home and we are appreciative of their efforts.
Rev. MacDonald had it right when he said it’s not really a story yet.
