In Japanese, “shokudo” means a place where you can find a variety of good food.

And there will lots of it when students in Georgian College's Culinary Management program cook up a series of international dinners with such themes as Asia-Pacific, European, Mediterranean, and The Americas starting March 18.

Second-year Georgian College Culinary Management student Stefania Giordano is part of a team of four students who will serve up a four-course Thai/Japanese fusion meal during one of two Asia-Pacific dinners.

“This is a really exciting event for us,” says Giordano. “We get to use the knowledge and skills we gained in the first and second years of our Culinary Management program to plan a full-scale menu and put some of our culinary concepts into action.”

The International Dinner Series is part of a group assignment in the program’s International Food Preparation course. The course helps students develop knowledge and understanding of modern and traditional cooking styles in French, Italian, Oriental and American cuisines. The course has two intakes this year, so there are eight chances to experience international cuisine.

Dinners include hors d’oeuvres, appetizers, first course, main dish, dessert and one beverage.

Cost is $39.95 per person. There are 120 seats available for each dinner. Guests will be treated to a sampling of traditional music and photo slideshow to complement the experience. Where: Georgian College, Barrie Campus, One Georgian Drive. Hor d’oeuvres reception: 6 p.m. Dinner: 7 p.m.

Dinners schedule:
• European – March 18 and Apr. 3
• Asia-Pacific – March 20 and Apr. 1
• Mediterranean – March 25 and Apr. 10
• The Americas – March 27/Apr. 8

Second-year Georgian College International Wine and Service students will provide the wine selection and table side service.

Allergy alert: seafood, nuts and dairy.

Call (705) 722-5142, select “option 1.” Reservations by phone only.
