SIMCOE COUNTY - The Simcoe County Museum will kick off Heritage Week with Family Day celebrations on Feb. 15.

The Sliding Through The Ages toboggan contest encourages competitors to bring their oldest, largest and most odd commercially made sliding devices and pit them against one another.

The Really Big Shoe event combines snowshoeing with orienteering. Families will look for various clues en route to the finish and prizes.

Hot dogs, chili, cookies, popcorn and hot chocolate will be for sale. 

All the museum’s regular exhibits will be open and there will also be a games room.

During the rest of the week, the museum will offer self-guided snowshoeing opportunities and a chance to play the traditional Iroquoian game of snowsnake.

Public skating on the outdoor rink will wrap up Feb. 20 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

All activities are included with a regular admission to the museum, $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, $4 for children, and pre-schoolers are free.
