Trio of charges against teen

A 17-year-old causing a disturbance near Mapleview Drive and Yonge Street is facing a few charges after police was called. Barrie officers said the youth was questioned Sunday and was charged with threatening bodily harm, breach of recognizance and obstructing police.

Man didn’t go home
A Barrie man spent Sunday night in jail after speaking with Barrie police. They saw him at 10 p.m. downtown, causing a disturbance, and asked him to head home. Instead, he stopped off at the Howard Johnson motel, where police arrested him for public intoxication. He stayed behind bars until he sobered up.

Crash and burn
A 1998 Envoy caught fire after a crash along Essa Road early Monday morning. Barrie police said the SUV crashed into a bus shelter and a light standard before stopping. Both people in the SUV made it out before the fire spread. 

The driver was charged with careless driving, and the vehicle was destroyed.

Man injured
Barrie police have charged a 49-year-old woman with assault after a fight with her ex-husband. Police said he was picking up his child, who he cares for full-time, at her home.

They started arguing, and he tried to leave in his vehicle. Officers said she opened the door and assaulted him before he left. He had minor injuries and reported the assault Sunday.

Theft charge
A 30-year-old man was charged with theft and possession after leaving the Canadian Tire store on Bayfield Street Friday. Barrie police said the man had a pair of garden shears with him when he left without paying.

A security guard chased him but he left the area, and police found the suspect at a local motel. He was also charged with two counts of breach of probation.

Stopping traffic

Barrie police had to take a woman back to the station after she was seen wandering into traffic near Bayfield and Grove streets Friday night.

Officers believe the 28-year-old was drunk and when she got to the station, she spat at an officer. She was charged with assaulting a police officer and was released.

Knives seized
Barrie police took away a knife, a 10-inch buck knife and hatch from a man at Fred Grant Square Friday night. Police said the man was walking down the sidewalk with the knife tucked down the front of his pants.

When asked who he was, police said he gave the wrong name. The 44-year-old man was charged with having a concealed weapon.

Bar fight
A man who got into a fight at a local strip club ended up getting arrested by Barrie police. At 1 a.m. Saturday, police found a 22-year-old man in a fight.

Officers said the man had hit another man in the head with a beer bottle, then punched him several times in the face. The man was charged with assault with a weapon, assault and breach of probation.

Breath tests ordered
A 22-year-old Barrie man got into trouble with police after an accident at a south-end business. Barrie police said there was a crash at 10:30 p.m. Friday, but the vehicle left the scene.

Police soon found a vehicle on Veterans Drive and spoke to the driver. Officers ordered two breath tests, then charged the man with impaired driving, having over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 mls of blood, and failing to remain.
