Happy paddling:

The Barrie Canoe and Kayak Club meets for Paddle Nights every Monday and Wednesday night from 6:30 p.m. until dusk. Please join them at the Southshore Centre, located at 205 Lakeshore Dr., on the south side of Kempenfelt Bay, to try out a canoe or kayak, hone your existing skills, or pick up new ones.
This summer free clinics will be offered on paddle nights, so please see the website for updates.   Monday and Wednesday night paddles run until Aug. 27 (except for the Civic Day Weekend).

Foresters Museum:
The public is invited to visit the Grey & Foresters Regimental Museum at 36 Mulcaster St. It’s open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the end of November. Admission is free. For more information, call 728-5893.

Wing events:

RCAF 441 Wing is a volunteer organization serving the Barrie and District Community through donations raised by various fund raising events, held at the RCAF 441 Wing headquarters, Highway 90.  
June 20 and 27 Friday night suppers are served at 5:30 p.m., for $6 per person, tickets available at the bar. Come and enjoy cards and friendship in the afternoon, with a meal to follow. For further information call the Wing at 705-726-5110, Tues. to Friday after 4:30 p.m. On June 27, the Wing Turkey Shoot starts at 10:30 a.m., light breakfast served. Come out and try your luck at winning great prizes!

Strawberries at Burton:
A Strawberry Supper will be held at Burton Avenue United Church, 37 Burton Ave., hosted by its Nicaragua Mission Group, on Wednesday, June 18.
There will be sittings at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.  Tickets cost $15 for adults, $6 for children under 12.  Call 726-0401 to reserve tickets.

St. George Anglican:
On Wednesday, June 18, St. George’s Anglican Church is holding its Strawberry Supper from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Angus Legion, 15 Fraser St. in Angus.

Guests will be served a ham and salad supper with fresh strawberries and homemade pies for dessert.

Cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children 5-10, while kids under five get in free.

Autism Ontario chapter meeting:

“How to explain autism to someone who has autism”, will be the focus of the next Autism Ontario meeting, Thursday, June 19, 7-9 p.m. at the Barrie Public Library, Georgian Room.

For women in the trades:
Come share information, network and connect at an informal meeting for women working in skilled trades. All welcome, whether working in the trades or interesting in doing so. King Edward School closes:
This is the final year for classes at King Edward Public School, and the school community will be holding closing ceremonies to commemorate the more than 100 years of excellence in education.

On June 19, invited guests will be gathering for a celebration of the school, its past and present staff and students, and the King Edward community. Guests will be treated to a performance by the school choir and other special presentations.

King Edward Public School is located at 19 Burton Ave., Barrie. The festivities get underway at 7 p.m. on June 19.

Summer Soulstice:

Chicks for Ducks, the Barrie Ladies Chapter of Ducks Unlimited Canada, are hosting their Ladies Only "Summer Soulstice" on June 19 at Horseshoe Valley Resort at 6 p.m. Enjoy grooving to the smooth sounds of Treasa Levasseur, a fabulous sit-down dinner, raffles and unique live auction where you can win trips, jewelry and cash prizes. Strawberries:
Collier St. United Church invites you to their annual Strawberry Supper on Thursday, June 19, at 6 p.m. Adults - $15. Children under 12 - $6.  Come out and enjoy a delicious homemade supper of ham, salads, rolls, plus fresh handpicked strawberries and ice cream. Tickets are now on sale at the church (726-1511). All welcome.

Jazzing it up at Oasis:
The Oasis, an outreach of Painswick United Church, located at 201 Hurst Drive, unit 6, presents an evening of Jazz Standards and original music, Friday night, June 20, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., with the Omar Gittens Quartet.

Strawberry Supper at Trinity:

A Strawberry Supper is scheduled for Friday, June 20 at Trinity United Church, Robert St., Thornton, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Adult admission is $13, children (six to 12 years) $4, while preschoolers get in free.

Marthas host Strawberry Social:
A delicious Strawberry Social is being held on Friday, June 20 at 6 p.m., hosted by the Merry Marthas at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 170 Steel St.

Tickets are available at the Church, 728-0541

Enjoy baked ham, salads and of course, strawberry shortcake.

Tickets are $14.00 per adult, $6 per child 6 - 12 and children under 6 are free.

Strawberries at the Manor:

Barrie Manor will be hosting a Strawberry Social.

Please join residents free of charge for an entertaining afternoon with the Ken Meyer Band and Strawberry Shortcake.

Boogie at ANAF:

Legion Dance:

Summer Fair and Craft Show:  

St. John's Anglican Church in Craighurst is holding its third-annual Fair and Craft Show on Sat., June 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Lots to buy - crafts, plants, baking, books and more.  Lots to do – barbecue, bouncy castle, pony rides for the kids. 

Live entertainment throughout the day, including the Horse Haven Drill Team from Orillia and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and the Double Toe Cloggers at 11 a.m.

Labyrinth Walk:

The seven-circuit Labyrinth is an ancient symbol, found on walls, in churches, and often as a pathway on the ground, as in Sunnidale Park in Barrie.

Join Beth Fryer, labyrinth facilitator at Sunnidale, for an open labyrinth walk to mark the Summer Solstice, from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21.

Meet outside Dorian Parker Centre, bring comfortable shoes and water, also a chair and journal if you wish.

There is a five-10-minute walk across the park to the labyrinth, not wheelchair accessible.

Walk for ALS:

Some people walk for exercise.  Others walk for relaxation.  On Saturday, June 21, Barrie residents will be walking to fight ALS, often known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  Now in its eighth year, the WALK for ALS raises money for people with ALS and their families.

Barrie’s walk gets underway at 10 a.m., with registration at 8:30, at Springwater Provincial Park on Highway 26.

Charity Garage Sale, BBQ:

A charity garage sale and barbecue is being held Saturday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bell Canada parking lot, Bayfield and Wellington.

All proceeds go to benefit a youngster who was badly burned last May, and currently undergoing treatment at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.

Edgar Strawberry Supper:

Covenant Christian Reformed Church invites you to their annual Strawberry Supper to be held on Saturday, June 21.

There are two sittings available, one at 4:30 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. Tickets are available in advance or at the door. $15 per adult and $5 for children 8 and under. Call Joyce at 722-8179 for tickets. The church is located at 101 Ardagh Rd., Barrie.

The menu includes Baked Ham Slices, Gourmet Meatballs, Party Potato Salad, Picnic Macaroni Salad, Zesty Coleslaw, Fiesta Vegetable Salad and, of course . . . Strawberry Shortcake a la mode!!

Ballroom Dance:
The Ballroom Dance Club will host a Summer Dance at the ANAF Hall, 7 George St., on Saturday, June 21, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. Admission tickets include a late-night snack with a variety of sandwiches, desserts and coffee or tea.

Praise and Worship:

The Church of God Worship Centre, 25 Morrow Road, presents a Praise and Worship Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22, from 2-10 p.m. both days. An evangelical service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m.

Bring your lawn chair to the Lion’s Pavilion at the Barrie waterfront to hear some great gospel singing and personal testimonies.
