A small dinghy capsized in Kempenfelt Bay Saturday afternoon.
Two people were rescued from the water by another boater at about 3:45 p.m. The dinghy capsized about 300 feet from shore off Tyndale Park in the Tollendale Mill Road area. The dinghy was pulled to shore by a small motorboat.
A resident on shore who saw two people in the water called police.
Barrie and South Simcoe Police as well as paramedics greeted the victims when they came to shore at Brentwood Marine to make sure they were not injured.
Meanwhile, a father and son were plucked from Bass Lake near Orillia Friday afternoon after their canoe capsized while they were fishing.
Fortunately, the 39-year-old father and his 11-year-old son from Beachville, ON were wearing life jackets. Other boaters in the area responded to their frantic calls for help and rescued them.
Barrie OPP and paramedics responded to an emergency call for help.
The father and son were taken to Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Orillia by paramedics for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The water temperature was extremely cold and without the assistance of the heroic boaters, the outcome could have been tragic, police say.
Boaters are being reminded that especially at this time of year, water temperatures in a lake of any size is still extremely cold and without a proper floatation suit, hypothermia can set in within minutes.
