Elisabeth Ashe has a book-signing event Saturday at Page & Turners from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Author Elisabeth Ashe has just released her third book, titled Returning Love, a 261-page romance novel.

The story centres on Janelle Taylor, a woman who becomes curious to find out what happened to an old flame from her teens. While at her computer, a pop-up for a classmates search company turns in to the catalyst she needs to locate the long-lost love 28 years later.

“It’s always intriguing that people who have had past relationships always wonder about the guy that got away or the girl that got away,” Ashe said.

While the story is not autobiographical, it is set in a fishing camp in northern Canada.

Ashe herself spent her 17th summer working as a cook for a fishing camp in Snowbird Lake, Northwest Territories.

When it came time to find a title for her latest book (published by Publish America, a Baltimore company) Ashe had a name-the-book contest for her friends. Some came up with very alluring suggestions (all puns intended) like Hooked on Love, and Fishing for Love.

The title Returning Love emerged victorious, after an online search revealed that Second Chances was already the popular choice for many books.

Born in Formosa, Ont., Ashe spends her winters in Mexico. It was two years ago when she came to visit family, that she had a great summer and decided to settle in Barrie. An importer of jewelry, she spends a good deal of creative time on the road to her designer in Mexico. “I have a lot of ideas when I’m driving. You get your best ideas … there’s nobody in the car, things you see along the way and people you see trigger ideas.”

Ashe’s fist book, The Jade Pendant, was written 11 years ago and published in 2005. The sequel, The Obsidian Stone, followed shortly thereafter. She is currently working on a third mystery romance novel, which centres on a Canadian woman who falls in love in Mexico.

As well, Ashe’s play, Buried Secrets, was produced in 1998 for Mainstage in Kamloops for the B.C. festival of community theatres. As an avid reader, and writer, Ashe enjoys the combination of mystery, intrigue, romance and a good ending.

A book-signing event takes place at Page & Turners, 123 Dunlop St. E., from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and $1 from each book sold will be donated to Gilda’s Club. Returning Love can be ordered at any bookstore and is also available online through Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
