Two undefeated teams in the Ontario Junior B lacrosse loop’s Mideast division are on the same track, and set to collide this week – twice.

The Clarington-based Green Gaels, sporting a 6-0 record, travel to Barrie Wednesday to tussle with the 5-0 Tornado, the rematch to which is slated for Thursday night back in Clarington.

The Tornado come off a weekend during which they triumphed in their first road game of this young season, 9-4 against the Ironheads in Markham Friday night, followed a 9-8 overtime victory Saturday over the Akwesasne Lightning, in the friendly confines of the Holly Community Centre.

Showing their 11-7 win over Markham back in Barrie in April was no fluke, the Tornado players scored early and often against the Ironheads, Sean Leaver notching four on the night, Justin Kloepfer getting into the act with a pair of goals and three assists. The Tornado led 3-1 after one period and 6-2 after two.

Two players making their season debut Friday, Mike Mawdsey and Scott Pybus, chipped in with one each. Greg Reid rounded out the scoring for Barrie, while Mike Mackley, Mike Triolo, Dan English and Mike Vertoli replied for the Ironheads.

Andrew Ball was solid in goal for the Tornado.

Then, on Saturday, back in Barrie, the home side got things going in a hurry, Dustin Leigh registering a hat trick and Cory Kloepfer lighting the lamp twice, Steve Holder once, as the Tornado ran up a 6-2 lead on the Lightning. But, then in the second, the visitors came to life, with a six-pack of their own, to leave the floor ahead 8-7.

Akwasasne got two goals each from Jarrett Jacobs and Bo Adams, while May Shea, Jordan Thomas and Devon George also beat Andrew Ball in the Barrie net.

Sean Leaver tied the game early in the third with the period’s only marker, his second on the night, Cory Kloepfer outwitting Lightning goalie Hunter White in the overtime frame to complete the hat trick and get the “W”.

Game time Wednesday night is 8 p.m. at the Holly Community Centre, located at 171 Mapleton Avenue.
