Proceeds from a trio of events being held simultaneously in Orillia, Oro-Medonte and Barrie on Saturday will go to support an area woman recovering from a recent car accident.

Cindy Morris, a single mother of three, sustained serious injuries in a January crash that resulted in her being flown to Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in critical condition.

She has since been moved to another hospital and will require long-term rehabilitation, organizers of the Under One Roof event said this week.

“Cindy would be the first person to help out others in any situation, and this is an opportunity for us to give back to her in a meaningful way,” said friend Terry Craig.

Two families are caring for Morris’s children during her convalescence, he added.

“She is a really warmhearted person, with an exceptional nature for giving and wanting to help others,” he said. “She is a great mom and her kids are among the three finest kids we’ve met.”

A trust fund was established to support Morris and her children, and several fundraising events have already been held, including a family fun fair hosted by Guthrie Public School.

Spread over three locations, Under One Roof will feature an evening of live music, multi-media presentations, praise, and worship.

Local bands will provide the soundtrack, while hundreds of community members have volunteered their time, organizers added.

The concept was borne out of a vigil held at Sunnybrook in the days following the crash.

“We chose this kind of event because we wanted to reflect Cindy’s sense of humour, joy for life and her deep faith,” added Craig, one of three masters of ceremonies.

The event takes place at Bethel Baptist Church in Orillia, Trinity Community Presbyterian Church in Oro-Medonte and Barrie Free Methodist Church beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free, though organizers are welcoming donations toward the Cynthia Morris Trust Fund.

Funds raised through the Saturday event will be used to help cover costs associated with medical needs, home upkeep and other expenses that may arise during her recovery period.
