•South Simcoe Railway has asked the town for the second of three $50,000 cheques.

Last year council committed to a $150,000 grant for the local tourist attraction. The South Simcoe Railway is hoping for the money before June 1 in order to stay on schedule with its restoration work.

The town made its first payment last summer. As a part of the agreement South Simcoe Railway is submitting receipts and accounting information to the town. Cost of the grant was included in the 2008 operating budget.

•Stevenson Memorial Hospital is asking for New Tecumseth council support in reapplying for the Underserviced Area Program.

The Alliston hospital last applied for the designation 10 years ago. Being accepted to the program means the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care provides a tuition rebate and relocation funding to doctors agreeing to work at least three years in the community.

As a part of the application, the ministry asks for a letter of support from the mayor or a motion passed by council.

•New Tecumseth is looking to enter an agreement allowing the Simcoe County Paramedic Services to have space at the Tottenham fire station.

New Tecumseth Fire Chief Dan Heydon said having the paramedics in Tottenham is a good move for the community.

Approval for an additional 12-hour vehicle in the south end of Simcoe County was in the 2008 county budget.

The Tottenham station was chosen because it has room for computers, as well as having kitchen and washroom facilities, and indoor parking.

Use of the fire hall won’t be full-time. It will be a central stop for paramedics for updating call reports. Paramedics will continue to pick up and drop off their assigned vehicles at the Alliston or Bradford Paramedic Base.

Official approval of a three-year lease agreement at the fire station is expected at the May 12 council meeting.

•Town staff is suggesting New Tecumseth council pass a bylaw to prevent trucks from stopping on Queen Street in Tottenham near Tim Hortons and Dairy Queen.

The town has received complaints from residents about the large vehicles parking in front of the restaurants.

A report ssuggested the sight line for other motorists is blocked. In one case, a homeowner has also had their driveway blocked on more than one occasion.

Although the two businesses offer over 50 parking spaces combined, there is no room in the parking lots for transport trucks. It is being suggested the stretch of road be designated a no stopping zone.
