The Alliston Junior C Hornets steamrolled through this past weekend, winning three games in as many days and extending their winning streak to a remarkable 11 games.
On Thu., Oct. 18, the squad travelled to Stayner and left with an 8-3 win over the Siskins. They returned home the following night to play their usual Friday game and hammered the Midland Flyers 11-0 at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
On the road again on Saturday, they delivered a 4-1 win over the Erin Shamrocks.
The Hornets are in first place in the Georgian Mid-Ontario league ahead of the second-place Penetang Kings. The Kings are last year's champions and have only given up once game this year - and that was to the Hornets.
Friday's home game against Midland was pretty much over midway through the second period.
After scoring three in the first, the Hornets came out hard in the second and put five more past Flyer goalie Brian Valentine after breaking down the Midland defence time and time again.
The win against Midland turned out to more of a lopsided match than was expected.
After having a couple of rough seasons, the Midland squad did some recruiting and so far this season has turned out a fairly solid performance holding third place in the league.
Hornet winger Jason Campeau said they weren't expecting that game to be the blowout it turned out to be.
"We knew they were in third place, so we came out to play hard," Campeau said.
At only 11 games into the season, Campeau said the team has gelled together early.
"We're taking every game like it's the first. We have a good team this year and I think we have a good chance of going 42 and 0 for the season.
"We definitely have team chemistry. Everyone knows their place on the team and we're all playing together."
The Hornets travel down Highway 27 this week to take on the Schomberg Cougars on Thursday evening.
They return to home ice on Fri., Oct. 26, to face the Penetang Kings in a game which most likely will be the toughest league match so far this season. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
