Walk of Hope leads off Community Calendar

On Sunday, Sept. 7, join thousands of Canadians in the Winners Walk of Hope – Canada’s only national event dedicated to raising funds to overcome ovarian cancer.

Barrie’s event is being held on the waterfront in front of the Centennial Park Lion’s Pavilion, from 9 a.m. to noon, along 2.5- and five-kilometre walk routes.  To learn more, see the website.

Paws for a Cause:
The fifth-annual Paws For A Cause family day in support of Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind will take over Pet Country Estate, Sun., Sept. 7.

The event includes agility and obedience demonstrations, a South Simcoe police dog demonstration, a puppy parade at 2 p.m. and a chance to meet special K-9 guide dogs Happy and Maisey.

Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome to join in the fun.

Paws For A Cause starts at 9:30 a.m. Admission is $2. Kids under 12 are free.

Pet Country Estate is located at 3087 20th Side Road, Innisfil, between Mapleview Drive and Lockhart Road. For more information call 431-1010.

DivorceCare:  

DivorceCare divorce recovery seminar and support group: Meets at Emmanuel Church, 4120 Salem Road, Barrie each Monday at 7:30 p.m. for 13 weeks beginning Sept. 8.

DivorceCare features nationally recognized experts on divorce and recovery topics. Seminar sessions include Facing My Anger, Depression and Facing My Loneliness.   For more information, call Paul or Betty at 737-1713.

Meeting supports Disabled:
The Simcoe County Association for the Physically Disabled will hold its Annual General Meeting Tues., Sept. 9,  at 6 p.m., at Kempenfelt Conference Centre, 3722 Fairway Road, Innisfil. A dinner will take place from 5-6 p.m. at a cost of $10.00 for Members and $15.00 for Non-Members.

Esthetics course:
Pro Image Hair Academy Esthetics courses begin Thurs., Sept, 11.

All of the curriculum consist of Government-approved diploma programs. After completing all nine modules of the Esthetic Program, you will receive Esthetic and Makeup Artistry Diploma. The esthetic program is 900 hours.

Church Concert:
The Scott Woods Show is coming to Barrie on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m., for a benefit concert on behalf of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Scott and his show band perform country, gospel and swing music with fancy fiddling, step dancing and a generous dose of humour.  Tickets are $20 and are available at Westminster Church at 170 Steel St in Barrie.
